The Quebec government’s Rénoclimat program was renewed on October 1, 2026, and it’s now simpler to take part: the energy evaluation before the work is no longer required. If you’re planning to replace your windows or your patio door, here’s what you need to know.

How much can you receive?

  • $300 per window or patio door replaced;
  • up to $4,500 for a house (the equivalent of 15 openings);
  • up to $6,000 for a duplex, a triplex or a multi-unit residential building.

The amount is calculated per opening in the wall: a bay window made of three sections counts as a single opening, and so does a patio door. The grant can’t exceed the amount paid for the work, before taxes.

The program runs until March 31, 2029.

Which products qualify?

Windows and patio doors must be certified ENERGY STAR® Most Efficient, a stricter category than the usual ENERGY STAR® certification. In general, the triple glazing option is needed to reach it. They must also replace an existing window, in the same opening.

Not eligible:

  • entry doors (no longer eligible since October 1, 2026);
  • replacing only the sealed glass unit, or only the sash;
  • a window installed in a new opening or an addition;
  • ENERGY STAR® windows that aren’t in the “Most Efficient” category;
  • work done by the homeowners themselves.

Does your home qualify?

You must own a house, duplex, triplex or multi-unit residential building in Quebec that:

  • was built and lived in at least five years ago;
  • has no more than three storeys;
  • is heated and livable all year round.

The work must be done on or after October 1, 2026, by a contractor holding the appropriate Régie du bâtiment du Québec (RBQ) licence.

The steps

  1. Energy evaluation (optional). It’s no longer required, but it’s recommended to help you choose your renovations, and Rénoclimat reimburses up to $500 of it.
  2. Quote. We suggest eligible models and tell you how many openings count toward the grant.
  3. Installation. Our crews install your windows, then we fill out and sign the attestation of compliance form the program requires.
  4. Keep your proof. Keep the ENERGY STAR® sticker from each window and all your invoices: you’ll need them for your application.
  5. Apply. Applications are made online on the Rénoclimat portal, no later than 12 months after the work is finished. The portal is being prepared and is expected to open this fall; the government offers to notify you by email when it’s ready.

Started under the old program?

If your home had an energy evaluation before October 1, 2026, you can finish under the old rules, as long as the post-work evaluation is done by March 31, 2027.
